Congratulations Universe, You’ve Won!
I can’t believe it, THERE’S ACTUALLY A COHEED AND CAMBRIA SONG I LIKE! I actually fucking love it. Ever since I saw the video for “blood red summer” I have hated this band simply because of the singer. His voice was so high-pitched, whiny and fucking annoying. I refused to believe anybody when they said “hey listen to this one, it doesn’t sound like that”. I’ve been seeing that wii Rock Band commercial with their song “Welcome Home” in it and I couldn’t ignore it. I had to hear the song in its entirety to know for sure if I could tolerate it. I went to their website earlier to try to find out the brand of guitar the singer uses (btw it’s a fucking beautiful guitar, a Minarik Medusa…I’ll post a link to the pic at the end of this) and the song was streaming. As it played through my headphones, I couldn’t stop myself from slightly tapping my foot to it. By mid-song I was lightly headbanging to it and by the last chorus I was full on breaking shit and moshing with myself (not really but I was really digging it). I don’t care if Claudio had the whiniest sounding voice (which he didn’t, it was actually decent), the music is so fucking epic and brutal that no one can resist a series of head bangs and fist pumps. I also found out that the singer has a series of comics and graphic novels that I might check out. Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t really like them. I listened to this song again on their myspace and then listened to the song that followed to see if I had been wrong this whole time…I wasn’t. They might have a few rockin’ songs but, overall, to whiny for me. Anyways, I must be going for now, netflix sent me a Henry Rollins stand-up/spoken word dvd so I must go watch. BTW his spoken word shows are actually quite funny. I recommend them to anyone who’s into the stand-up sort of deal. Goodbye.
